Quick visit from G & G

My mom and dad were down this morning for a quick visit before they flew out to Portland/Seattle to visit family.  We were excited to see them briefly and look forward to seeing them again next week when they fly home! We went out for a quick lunch that Henry got to pick and it was not a shocker that he picked McD's.  Claire if course enjoyed her first experience at the golden arches.  Henry picked our seats so we were seated at separate tables and Henry and I had a massive ronald in between us.  I was slightly creeped out but he enjoyed it. Poor Claire woke up with a slightly swollen eye this morning. We will have to watch it and see if I need to take her in.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes.

In Claire's preflight report it said that she liked to wear adults shoes.  They were not kidding.  She likes my shoes, she likes Henry's shoes and if you can believe it she even can get around in Jason's shoes.  Girlfriend likes her shoes!

Crime Scene

The Crime Scene

The Weapon

The Victim
(The band-aid was actually needed not just for show)

The Perpetrator
(a awfully cute one!)

And back to being buddies.
These two have been working through things and trying to figure out how to be a brother and sister the past couple of days.  I have been spending lots of time refereeing.  I am trying to give Henry the words to ask for help if he needs it with Claire instead of melting down into tears.  And we are working really hard on Claire being gentle with Henry.  She loves him fiercely and does not know how to show it gently.  We knew we would go through these growing pains as a family and we are working our way through them.  They still look for each other first thing in the morning and make each other laugh like no other but are also learning how to push each others buttons.  We will come out the other side and find our new normal, it just takes time!!!

Settling in

We have been home now for three full days and are starting to really settle in.  The suit cases are all unpacked and most clothes washed.  Now just to put away the massive piles of stuff unpacked!  Claire is doing amazingly well!!! She is enjoying exploring a little more each day and it is so fun to see more of her sparkly personality shine through! Night time is still a hard time for her and she grieves but last night it was much less in duration and she was able to calm herself quickly and fall back asleep in my arms.  Henry has been waking up at night too (not at the same time) because of his asthma.  I think that the smog and possible a little cold (fever in airport) finally caught up with the guy.  We are making progress in jet lag though!! Today we all woke up by 9 am!!! Yesterday after a rough night it was 11:30.  The day goes really quickly when you wake up at 11:30.

Henry and Claire had a very instant and intense love for each other.  They literally light up when they see each other.  Henry has been the huge stepping stone and safety net that Claire needed to make such a huge life change.  Not that there are not any little things that we need to work on.  Claire can love a little too hard on Henry. He does a really good job of taking it but he always has such a wounded look on his face.  We are working on being gentle and if you repeat "gentle gentle" to her she will start softly petting Henry.  Henry is still getting used to the fact that she touches all his stuff.  He is still over tired and gets more emotional when an offence happens.  Yesterday I set him behind the gate so that he could play cars uninterrupted and still be in the same room as all of us and it seemed to work well.  Finding the sibling dynamic is a work in progress but we will get there!! The sweet moments far out number the drama.  Henry asked if Claire could take a bath with him again and was thrilled to hear she could always take a bath with him! Two at a time is way faster!!

Claire has also decided today that its ok to have Appa do more for her.  I am not going to lie he totally bribed her with food to win her over but hey it worked!!! Claire always liked Jason and thought he was funny but she like him from the seat next to him. She would have preferred that he not hold her at all but would deal with it no longer than a minute or two.  She would put up with it but just stick her bottom little lip out.  Yesterday Jason worked really hard at winning her over and huge progress has been made!! He was even able to do two diaper changes today! It all takes time but today was a big day in their relationship.  I was told were Appa is all day and during our walk she kept turning around and waving to him.

Claire is hilarious!!! She is a sassy little lady with loads of personality! She trys to be a little mother to Henry and will pat him and try to feed him.  She also mimics everything I do and I have a little shadow.  I was folding clothes this morning and she was right there with me helping.  The lady has style.  She loves jewelery, purses and shoes.  I was putting clothes away in her closet and she wanted me to pick her up.  She slowly looked at all the clothes in her closet.  I am going to be in trouble when this little fashinista is a teenager!!! She is a really good sleeper.  She has been waking up some at night but that is because of grieving and she falls asleep again almost immediately.  She cuddles into me to fall asleep and then I am able to put her in her crib in our room until she wakes up again.  Last night she was only up once so knock on wood we are getting there!  This girl can eat.  She will try almost anything and if she does not like it she will wave her little hand and shake her head.  She has liked almost everything we have given her.  The first thing to go on her plate is always the fruit, she LOVES the fruit.  Cherries are the favorite but grapes, raspberries and strawberries are good too.  She will try the blueberries but still not a fan yet.  I made kimbap today for lunch and she inhaled it!!!! We had been giving her lots of seaweed but I had not made rice yet and she was sooo excited to eat it.  When she needs a diaper change she scrunches up her little nose and pinches it while waving her little hand.  The first time we saw it yesterday we just about died laughing.  When she is tired and just about ready to fall asleep and right before she wakes up she takes her pointer finger and taps her lips.  It is the sweetest thing to watch.
I was in the kitchen and I looked over to see these two cuddling!!
Looking fancy for breakfast the first morning home!

We needed to upgrade our gate at the bottom of the steps.  Two monkeys, Henry pulling it down/falling, Jason busting open his toe and just having forgotten how annoying it was to take up and down or step over led to us buying a new permanent gate.  The fantastic news is that Henry figured out how to open it in exactly 10 minutes.  The gate is not for him so as long as he remembers to close it we are ok.  He was pretty proud of himself.

Appa is so lucky to have two helpers now!

Seriously melts my heart.

They were so excited for me to take their picture.  Can you see it all over Henry's face?
"Kimbap!?! Yes, I would like about 5 more of those." Normally the fruit is the first thing she eats but today all of her Kimbap was gone first!

Happy Girl!!

The Trip Home

There are no pictures from the beginning of our day because it was filled with a little drama.  Thank goodness it all ended before we got on the plane!!!! 20 Minutes before the taxi was set to pick us up we were finishing up packing and getting everything together.  I had Claire on my back and was washing a bottle so they would all be clean for the trip.  All of a sudden my back go very warm..... and then a waterfall was streaming down to the floor.  I had literally changed her 20 minutes before but we had a diaper leak of EPIC proportions.  Ergo wet, baby wet and mama wet.  Thankfully we were still at the hotel and all our bags were still there.  We quick bathed her in the sink got her dressed and added about 3 more outfits to our carry-on.  I showered and found more clothes and then added more of my clothes to the carry-on.  Jason rinsed the ergo as much as possible and then we put wet ergo in one of our reusable shopping bags in hopes we could dry it for our plane transfer in Seattle.  Luckily I had also packed a hip sling so we put Claire in the sling and Henry in the ergo and off to the taxi we went!! Both kids fell asleep on the hour ride to the airport.  When Henry woke up he kept telling us his face hurt and was very upset.  We checked in and bought Claire's lap ticket and Henry was a whimpering mess the entire time.  Security and immigration went fine but Henry still was a miserable little mess.  We went up to the kids area on the second floor and tried to regroup.  By the time we got up there Henry had spiked a fever and was not a happy boy.  He needed his mama and thankfully Claire let Jason hold her so I could take care of Henry.  It was like she knew that Henry needed me right then.  We were able to get Motrin in him and about a half hour/hour after that his fever went down.  He was much more his normal self and we were able to get him to eat something.  I am so glad we left super early for the airport so that we had the time to get his fever down and get him calmed down.  It was a bit stressful but we put our rally caps on and pushed forward! We headed down to our gated and on the way there was a play area for both of the kids to stretch and play one last time!
Playground in our concourse..... Thank Goodness!!!

Cutie!

Henry was belting out at the top of his lung the "Hot Dog" dance song from Mickey Mouse Club house.
They were mesmerized watching a plane load up and get pushed back.

After a million Starbucks our first Caribou sighting!

We made it on the plane!!! It look as though I barely did, phew!

So what are we going to do for 10 hours???

Hour 1

Hour 9
They both slept the ENTIRE flight.
WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!
They both slept the ENTIRE flight!!!! We had a 6:15 pm flight so I am not shocked that Claire slept that much but for Henry to sleep that long was amazing.  He did wake up 5 hours into it with a fever again but we gave him more Motrin and he went right back down.  When he woke up on our decent into Seattle he was his happy somewhat normal self! Our second ergo was also dry by the time we hit Seattle so things were looking up! By the time we got through immigration, customs and security again we literally walked onto our next flight and took off.  Thankfully the gate agent had seen that we were connection and did not have seats together so she had already reticketed us so we could all be together. Claire slept on the way and the rest is history! We made it home!!!
